Bharathiyar Gurukulam was established in 2003 by Hindu Munnani to provide a safe and nurturing home for orphaned and abandoned children. Many children, due to unfortunate circumstances, lose parental support and face extreme hardships. Without guidance, they become vulnerable to anti-social influences, putting their future and society at risk. To prevent this, Bharathiyar Gurukulam was founded to raise these children with discipline, Hindu values, and patriotism, ensuring they grow into responsible and self-reliant individuals.
The first Gurukulam was started in Tiruchirappalli within the Bharath Cultural Training College campus. Following the ancient Gurukulam system, the children were given a structured routine that included yoga, physical training, spiritual education, and formal schooling. Inspired by its success, a second center was established in 2010 in Tirupur, at the Tamizchelvan Memorial Campus near Koduvai, to extend this service to more children in need.
Recognizing the importance of providing legal security and long-term sustainability, Bharathiyar Gurukulam was registered under the Tamil Nadu Hostels and Homes for Women and Children Regulations Act, 2014. Over the years, the Gurukulam has provided a home for over 200 children, offering free education, food, shelter, and values-based learning to shape their futures. Many former students have secured jobs in banking, teaching, media, and other fields, proving that Bharathiyar Gurukulam is not just a shelter but a launchpad for success.
Beyond education, the Gurukulam actively engages in cultural and community service activities, including training camps, Vilakku Pooja, Go Pooja, and free accommodation for pilgrims. Today, 71 children reside in the two Gurukulams, receiving the care and education they deserve. With the support of kind-hearted donors, the institution continues to grow, striving to empower more children and expand its mission across Tamil Nadu.
